👺Embark on an epic journey in "Skyward Samurai: Shadow of Kurama", a game where spiritual and physical escalation intertwine. Follow the tale of Yoshitsune, a young warrior seeking mastery under the tutelage of the wise Tengu Sojobo atop the mystical Mount Kurama.

🏯In this 2D-silouhette-black&white platformer, master the art of precise swiping to leap across treacherous paths and engage in duels with malevolent foes. Strike with impeccable timing or face defeat. Navigate through escalating challenges, embodying both the game's theme and the protagonist's ascent to spiritual enlightenment.

㊗️How to play: drag and swipe to move and quickly tap on the Kanji button as fast as possible, the enemy could attack very quick if you miss the trayectory!

👹Created for the Construct Game Jam  and Samurai Jam around the theme "escalation", we explored both the literal ascent of Mount Kurama and Yoshitsune's spiritual growth. This game features dynamic music system and and animations crafted in Spine.

🧑‍💻👩🏻‍💻Initially developed mostly over a weekend, "Skyward Samurai" is our labor of love, and we hope it inspires you as much as it did us. We welcome your feedback and comments - they might just fuel our journey to continue this adventure!

😊👍

Really intuitive and fun to play, such a great game!

oh thank you! I've recieved feedbacks was about it not being intuitive to control, I'm glad someone finds it easy

The last gauntlet was tough! Very fun game, in a super cool style. I had slight issues with the controls during platforming - though killing enemies was super satisfying.

Out of curiosity, how many charms are there? Did I collect them all?

insanley fun but needs tuning the drop is too steep either show me what my trajoctory is gonna be or just dec gravity.its most fun moments are when i chain kill enemies.

Controls are far from intuitive to be honest. I'm playing on PC, swiping with the mouse to move is clear, but it's totally unclear what I need to do when attacking. Do I need to time it when I am hitting an enemy? Do I need to click as fast as possible when the red symbol appears? This really needs some more explanation.

But, apart from that, it looks great and promising! I am curious to move on, but just can't currently. Accidentally killed the first enemy, but after that failing again and again.

Thank you for your honest feedback. we understand your concerns with the controls. The game was developed within a few days for the jam, and though we found the controls intuitive (OFC, after numerous tryanderror :P ), it's clear from your and others' feedback that they need refinement. Post-jam, we plan to improve this aspect.

To clarify, you should press the red button with the 'attack' kanji as quickly as possible when it appears. We realize the timing changes based on the enemy's distance, which can be unclear... need to think something else!

We appreciate your positive comments too and are glad you find the game promising!

Yeah, can totally understand you can't finetune much in just a few days. For the short time it took it's an impressively fluent experience. But, the attacking could definitely need some tutorial for instance.

But, well done!

Now the attack interaction should be better ;)

Seems better, but I just don't get it ... sorry ... but maybe it's just me, other people seem to understand.

Just a heads up I don't think AI art is allowed

(1 edit)

We used AI for placeholders that we couldn't replace before the end of the jam 😞 now, I think only two backgrounds were left, but I'll make sure to update them as soon as possible 🙇‍♂️

I don't want to interfere but the regulations do not prohibit the use of AI works
